Answering Your Questions About Propane

How Do I Read My Gauge?

The majority of our tank gauges display a maximum level of 80. Filling the tanks to approximately 80% capacity is customary to allow for thermal expansion. Occasionally, a gauge may become stuck, but a light tap on it typically resolves the problem.

Please remember that this is only an approximation, as fluctuating temperatures or varying conditions during the day can impact the percentage shown on the gauge.

What to Do if You Smell Gas

In the event of a gas leak, you will quickly discover that propane emits an extremely unpleasant odor. Imagine yourself relaxing when suddenly, you detect a distinct smell reminiscent of rotten eggs. This distinctive odor is a warning sign that propane may be leaking into your home or business premises.

Gas leaks, although rare, can occur due to various factors such as construction damage, faulty appliances, or damaged pipes. Additionally, allowing your tank(s) to run out of gas can increase the likelihood of a gas leak. Tampering with propane equipment, modifying or repairing valves, or interfering with your propane tank or distribution system can also lead to gas leaks.

Propane is naturally odorless, but manufacturers deliberately add Ethyl Mercaptan to give it a strong, unpleasant scent resembling rotten eggs. This intentional addition is meant to immediately alert customers to any gas leaks as soon as they happen.

If you detect the smell of rotten eggs or suspect a gas leak, it is essential to contact us at 845-361-1789 to report the issue promptly. Our commitment to exceptional customer service and support is unmatched.
